Dear Families,
As our 24-25 school year is off to a fast start, I wanted to provide you with information about the emergency drills your children will participate in this year. According to the General Assembly, “Emergency drills” are drills that are designed to provide practice and instruction to the students and staff in order to remain safe. These drills include but are not limited to fire drills, lockdown drills, evacuations drills, shelter-in place drills, and Alice drills. RI General Law 16-21-4 and 16-21-5: Please see below a list of drills and their components:
- Fire Drills
- “Fire Drills” are drills that move students and staff from one place to another and are designed and conducted to practice for situations where the primary objective is to ensure that students and staff can quickly move away from the threat to where conditions outside the school building are safer than the conditions inside the school building.
- Evacuation
- “Evacuation Drills” are drills that move students and staff from one place to another and are designed and conducted to practice for situations where the primary objective is to ensure that students and staff can quickly move away from the threat and where conditions outside the school building are safer than conditions inside the school building, necessitating that students evacuate the building and/or move further from the school building than the distance required during a fire drill.
- Lockdown
- “Lockdown drills” are designed and conducted to protect school building occupants from potential dangers in the building: there is no movement in or out of the building.
- Shelter in Place
- This drill is designed and conducted to protect school building occupants from potential dangers outside of the school building.
- Medical Shelter in Place- This drill is designed to protect the privacy and safety of an individual who may be in distress.
Last week students at Globe Park participated in a lockdown and fire drill. Some time over this next week September 30, 2024 - October 4, 2024 our students will participate in an evacuation drill. We ask that you take a little bit of time to talk with your child(ren) about the importance of drills and they are practiced in the event of an emergency.
Best Regards,
Mrs. Kennell Principal Globe Park
